Alice in Wonderland Party a winner

one half of the tables
After two solid days of cooking and setting up the dining room, Paige's Alice in Wonderland Party was complete. We had 3 long tables, sitting 24 kids. The girls had mini top hats and the boys had moustaches. Above the tables were 15 tissue pom poms that I had made in various colours. The table decorations were large lolly jars, a red candelabra (found at second hand store, repainted in gloss red), numerous cups and saucers also sourced from second hand shops.  Bright coloured swirls made from some sort of reed, I purchased at Loots. There were red heart balloons on sticks. Everyone had a small glass drink bottle which had a sticker saying "drink me.....?" with the child's name inserted. I had two glass drink dispensers, one with water the other with lemonade with a dash of raspberry cordial simply to add a touch of colour.
The Birthday girl

I made 5 card men. We used 4 for a game of croquet, an Alice in Wonderland party wouldn't be complete without a game of croquet. I used the other one to hold a pot of red paint and a brush for the front of the house, together with my red/white rose bush, a great way to let the guests know for sure where the party was. We played toss the sugar cube into large tea cups. I had  jumbo cups I use for hot chocolate which holds about 2 average drinks. As we had so many chairs, we decided to play musical chairs inside to escape the heat from our outside games. I think the kids loved this the most. The song choice was Gangnam style, which created a few familiar dance moves. I am sure our wooden floors are grateful its over.

Pretty cupcakes with chocolate hearts on top, wrapped in red heart cup cake wrappers. Yummy. I made teapot sugar cookies, iced with the words "eat me"....and eat me they did.
Paige designed her cake. She wanted a chess board as seen in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. I found figurines on eBay and used them to decorate the cake as well as home made mushrooms.
Pom poms.

Girls in their hats.
All went to plan and the weather was good. I was physically exhausted that night, but it was well worth the effort for her last big birthday party, I hope!!!!!!
